1963 Polo Shirt Black

The polo shirt originated in the early 20th century and was originally developed for tennis. A French tennis pro in the 1920s designed a short-sleeved, comfortable shirt made of breathable cotton piqué that offered more freedom of movement than the long-sleeved shirts common at the time. Although it was intended for tennis, it quickly became particularly popular in polo. The polo shirt made its triumphant entry into the fashion world in the 1950s thanks to various Hollywood stars and the preppy style. 
Our 1963 polo shirt originates from this very era and is both casual and elegant, without losing its sporting origins. The waffle fabric we use is crisp and comfortable to wear.

Darte release their Volume III collection this summer inspired by sightseeing, camping, sports and roadside attractions throughout America in the 50’s and 60’s. The Wellsboro baseball shirt takes it’s name from a well-known fishing and camping destination near the “grand canyon” of Pennsylvania. This town embodies picturesque small town America. It’s colours are influenced by the famous Wellsboro diner.

The design was created by letterpress artist Problem Press using turn of the century printing equipment. We wanted to preserve the human element of the printing process, the subtleties that come from something made by hand, and used a specialist print technique.

We made made this baseball cap in an original 1940’s style . We used a thick black Melton wool with an embroidered logo to the front and a red embroidered Bolt logo on the rear. The underneath of the brim features a satin finish and a wool button finishes the top. The cap has a slightly less structured fit giving it a smarter appearance.
